The Fourth
Annual Ragin’ on the River Powerboat Race set for Labor
Day Weekend in Port Deposit
Ragin
on the River is back! The Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce
is well into the planning stages for Ragin’ on the River 3. This Fourth
annual American Power Boat Association (APBA) Inboard Hydroplane &
Flatbottom Region 4 race will be held at Marina Park in Port Deposit
Maryland, September 2 and 3.
The APBA
sanctioned race will draw over 80 boats competing in seven
different classes. These racers will come from all over the United
States, as well as have an international flavor with the event
sanctioned by the Canadian Boating Federation. This event will cap the
racing on the Chesapeake Bay in 2007
, including the popular world
championships at Cambridge and the Kent Narrows races that will be held
earlier in the summer. For the first time in the history of Maryland
Boat Racing, “The Maryland Cup” will be presented at the close of the
Port Deposit venue. The winner of this prestigious award will be the
racer with the highest combined points from all three races in region
4. Race Director Jim Robinson promises an exciting two-day race filled
with exceptional events for competitors and Spectators.
Land spectator
parking will be located on Route 222 at Bainbridge. Please
follow the signs for “Ragin’ Parking.” Shuttle buses will run to and
from the race site starting at 10:00 AM.
General admission,
which includes an event program, is $5.00, no charge for
children, 12 and under, accompanied by a paying adult. Pit passes will
be available to purchase for those who wish to enter the “pits”. This
is the secured area in South Marina Park where the racers and their
boats pass the time between classes. Those admitted to the pit area
must wear closed toe shoes.
“Ragin’ on the
River”, Port Deposit’s racing jewel, is seeking additional race sponsors
as well as food and craft vendors.
For additional information,
please call Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce Representatives Tom Knight
