Our Town Center Looking South
What is an Online Village?
By our definition,
it defines us striving to be
a truly inclusive community web site,
that allows and enables
diverse groups of citizens means
to express and promote themselves
through the World Wide Web and
PortDeposit.com. With the goal
of having the ”Online Village”
become a living, responsive, reflection of the actual community.
Some sides notes
on how some think of our Village...
In
1978 our entire town was placed on the
National Historic Register.
Concerned citizens of the time fought hard to protect and preserve the Heritage
and character of a town whose very existence was so intrical to the
early American culture and
commerce. Their efforts live today from our museums to Area commissions that
encourage all citizens to take part in our grass roots organizations and
community events. We are truly an inclusive community.
We know each others phone numbers by the
last four digits.
The area code and exchange is understood (410) 378-....
Our
Mayberry-like flavor is probably due mainly to our location. Nestled on the
shoals of the Susquehanna River as well as being surrounded by State Parks and
rising Granite cliffs we are a town that one appears to step back into time.
Most everyone looks familiar in our town of 800 plus.
We
too have been as strong part of early American History. The rich stories that
survive are constantly being uncovered and gives this community such a sense of
pride; that such a small town has been so influential on the politics and growth
of a young nation. (this
site has over 500 photos and images spanning
early American art as well as the birth of the camera to now!)
Architecture
spans from the early 1700's to today. The population is just as diverse we
welcome all to visit or to join our community.

Port Deposit is nestled along the Susquehanna River
which gives us a unique community spirit
