"A. L. Barry Photographic Artist 1883"
=Picture and Article donated by Marvin Duff=
In 1868 Mr. Alonzo L. Barry,
was a native of
Frederick County, Md. but for the last fourteen years has been a citizen of Port
Deposit. He opened a photographic gallery in a pleasant and convenient room in the
business center of the town, and has successfully carried on the establishment
ever since. If printing be the art preservative of art, surely photography is
the art preservative of nature and should rank second only to the former in
importance and as nature is faithfully copied by Mr. Barry, he is entitled to
bear the palm with those whose profession is to paint with type pictures which
only the educated can perceive. His work has ever given entire satisfaction, and
defies criticism. and his prosperity is assured since the foundations he has
laid are so certainly secure. Mr. Barry's popularity is evidenced by the fact
that he is at present an esteemed member of the present Board of School
Trustees. His large and beautiful stock of picture-frames most needs have
mention, and his taste in the selection of them must be acknowledged.
