Ernest Burke

A Port Deposit Black Sox Stand-Out
Called Up To The Baltimore Elite Giants

By Historian Fred Kelso, Oxford PA
 as provided by Erika Quesenbery
Curator Paw Paw Museum Port Deposit, MD

The Port Deposit Black Sox were a great team of baseball players, so good in fact that when the Baltimore Elite Giants came barnstorming, playing in small towns for publicity, they noticed some of the players. One of these was Ernest Burke. The Giants spotted Burke during a game at Port Deposit and called him up. Ernest Burke pitched for the Baltimore Elite Giants from 1947 to 1948.
