25,1876 “Crystal Debating Club” - The Crystal Club is a
debating association of our colored citizens, which holds its meetings weekly
and is progressing finely. The officers are J.W. Martin, President; Robert
Glover, Vice President; J.W. Eaton, Secretary; Alex. R. Oliver, Treasurer. The
subject for discussion, last week, was: “Which has prevented the advancement of
the colored race, Ignorance or Color?” After a spirited debate it was
determined in favor of the former
